Chandra Kanth Bandi
Chandra is a Post-doctoral researcher in Glycan Engineering Laboratory supervised by Dr. Shishir Chundawat. He comes from India where he completed his undergraduate studies in Biotechnology and Biochemical engineering at IIT Kharagpur. He moved to United States to earn his MS degree in Chemical and Biochemical engineering from Rutgers University. His MS thesis work was focused on building mechanistic models for granulation process under the guidance of Dr. Rohit Ramachandran. His doctoral dissertation was centered around engineering glycosyl hydrolase enzymes for synthesizing oligosaccharides (glycans) that have applications in bioseparations and gut microbiome research. He worked on developing universal high- throughput screening techniques for direction evolution of glycan synthesizing enzymes.
During his post-doctoral work, he is developing biosensors to enable high-throughput screening in the directed evolution of glycosyl transferases and glycosyl hydrolases. He is interested in understanding the fundamental relationship between GLYCANS and other biomolecules, especially the link between gut-neural system is very fascinating.
